Culture and Identity Program
Supporting Cultural Heritage
The 6-week Culture and Identity Program is designed to provide South Sudanese and African youth in Australia a platform to explore, preserve, and celebrate their cultural heritage. Through educational workshops, storytelling sessions, and community engagement activities, participants gain a deeper understanding of their cultural roots and traditions. The program fosters a sense of pride in cultural identity and encourages youth to embrace their heritage while navigating their place within Australian society.
Fostering Identity and Belonging
One of the key goals of the program is to help participants build a strong sense of self-identity and belonging. By offering a safe and inclusive space, the program allows youth to reflect on their dual identity as both South Sudanese and Australians. It also empowers them to tackle issues of cultural disconnect and stereotypes, promoting cross-cultural understanding and helping youth feel secure in expressing their identity.
Building Leadership and Resilience
Through mentorship and personal development sessions, the program encourages the growth of leadership skills and resilience. Participants not only engage in cultural education but also learn how to overcome challenges related to their identity. The program helps youth develop skills to become community leaders who can advocate for their peers, fostering a generation of young people capable of navigating complex social landscapes with confidence and determination.

Youth Justice Support Program – Outreach
Culturally Responsive Support
The Youth Justice Support Program provides culturally responsive interventions for youth involved in the justice system. Aiming to reduce recidivism, the program focuses on addressing the root causes of offending behavior through mentorship, education, and advocacy. By acknowledging the cultural backgrounds of participants, the program ensures that the support provided is relevant, respectful, and effective in promoting positive behavioral change.
Trauma-Informed Counseling and Life Skills
A core aspect of the program is its trauma-informed approach, which recognizes the psychological impact of past experiences on youth. Participants receive counseling that is tailored to their specific needs, alongside life skills training that empowers them to make better decisions and reintegrate into society. The program also offers family support, working closely with families to help them navigate challenges and strengthen their role in the youth’s rehabilitation process.
Promoting Reintegration and Social Inclusion
The Youth Justice Support Program goes beyond addressing immediate justice system involvement. It focuses on long-term reintegration, aiming to connect youth with educational opportunities, employment pathways, and positive role models. By addressing systemic barriers such as discrimination and lack of opportunities, the program promotes social inclusion and supports participants in leading fulfilling, law-abiding lives.
Mental Health Support
Holistic, Culturally Safe Care
Our Mental Health Support Program is designed to provide culturally safe and responsive mental health services to vulnerable South Sudanese youth and families. The program acknowledges and respects the cultural identities, traditions, and lived experiences of participants, ensuring that mental health support is grounded in cultural sensitivity. We aim to build trust with individuals and families, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable seeking help and engaging in therapeutic processes.
Trauma-Informed and Personalized Support
Central to the success of the program is its trauma-informed care approach. Many participants have experienced significant trauma, and the program addresses these experiences through tailored interventions that promote healing and resilience. Support services include individual counseling, peer mentorship, and family therapy, all designed to address the specific mental health challenges faced by South Sudanese youth and their families.
Fostering Social Inclusion and Empowerment
Our mental health program goes beyond individual therapy by promoting social inclusion and empowerment. Through community engagement, participants are encouraged to connect with peers and community resources, helping them build supportive networks. The program also focuses on breaking down systemic barriers, ensuring that participants have access to broader social and public services that promote well-being, self-sufficiency, and community involvement.
Mother’s Group
Creating a Safe Space for Mothers
The Mothers' Engagement Program provides a culturally safe and supportive environment for South Sudanese women to come together and share their experiences. This monthly gathering allows mothers to discuss the challenges they face, such as parenting in a new cultural context, overcoming language barriers, and navigating discrimination. The program fosters a sense of solidarity and community among participants, allowing them to connect and support one another in a safe, inclusive space.
Empowering Mothers Through Education and Support
The program empowers mothers through workshops, support groups, and community resources. These initiatives are designed to increase their confidence, knowledge, and engagement with their families and communities. Participants gain valuable tools to address challenges and improve their overall well-being. Additionally, the program provides mothers with a platform to engage in open discussions about the barriers they face and seek solutions together.
Promoting Active Engagement in the Community
By fostering empowerment, the Mothers' Engagement Program encourages mothers to take an active role in their communities. Participants are equipped with resources and support that allow them to contribute meaningfully to social, cultural, and civic activities. The program not only strengthens individual mothers but also supports the broader South Sudanese community by promoting leadership and engagement among its female members.
Employment and Job Training
Job Readiness Skills Development
Our Employment and Job Training program is designed to prepare participants for success in the job market by equipping them with essential job readiness skills. In the first week, participants focus on self-assessment, resume writing, cover letter creation, and interview techniques. By working on tailored application strategies, participants refine their job-searching skills and leave the program with polished documents and interview-ready confidence.
Practical Job Search Experience
The second week of the program is centered around active job searching. Participants are guided through the process of networking, applying for jobs, and navigating online platforms. Trainers provide personalized support, helping participants identify suitable job openings and refine their applications. Mock interviews and tailored advice ensure participants are fully prepared for real-world job interviews and application processes.
Building Confidence and Long-Term Success
At the conclusion of the program, participants review their progress, celebrate their achievements, and receive a certification of completion. The program emphasizes the importance of perseverance and long-term success, creating actionable job search plans to sustain efforts beyond the program. Participants leave with enhanced communication skills, confidence, and practical tools to help them secure meaningful employment.
Cultural Responsiveness Training
Building Cultural Understanding
Our Cultural Responsiveness Training Program is designed to help organizations better understand and engage with the South Sudanese community. The program is structured around three core principles: knowing, being, and doing. "Knowing" focuses on understanding the South Sudanese community’s culture, history, and lived experiences. "Being" encourages the development of attitudes and behaviors that foster cultural respect and safety, while "Doing" emphasizes practical steps to implement cultural safety in services and interactions.
Transforming Services and Practices
The training program aims to help organizations identify systemic barriers and transform their services to better meet the needs of South Sudanese individuals and families. Participants learn how to implement culturally responsive strategies that improve service delivery, foster trust, and create inclusive environments. The program is grounded in strength-based approaches, focusing on what works well and identifying areas for improvement in engaging with the South Sudanese community.
Creating Leaders for Cultural Safety
This training program also emphasizes the development of leadership skills to promote cultural safety within organizations. Participants are equipped with the knowledge and tools to lead by example, fostering environments that are truly responsive to the cultural needs of the South Sudanese community. By focusing on practical applications, the program enables participants to make tangible improvements in their interactions with clients, colleagues, and communities.
