The word "Mät" comes from the Nilotic language group, which includes ethnic groups primarily inhabiting the Nile Valley and surrounding regions of northeastern Africa. As a noun, it refers to a gathering place, and as a verb, it means "to bring together" or "to unite". In this context, it refers to community building and the sharing of knowledge and resources to strengthen engagement and connections within the community.
